Artist Statement:

As an artist from Queens, New York, I draw inspiration from the cultural heritage and the vibrant, diverse community in which I was raised. My work is centered around celebrating and exploring the beauty of black and brown people. Often incorporating symbolic elements, abstraction, and complex color and shape combinations. Through my art, I aim to challenge traditional representations, and the world we inhabit, and celebrate our community's unique beauty and strength. Depicting us not only as a part of a larger whole but as the center of it. I look at my work as simplistic complexity in which easily recognizable forms are sometimes placed in, or as part of less obvious surroundings. Impressing upon the viewer that the shapes and colors are more than just abstractions and pretty designs because we are in sync with them. Our presence makes them bold & brighter as does our presence in the world.

When it comes to design, I love the variety and the process. It allows me to go further outside of my comfort zone and create solutions to complex problems and challenges me to find new creative paths and methods to convey my ideas. I love working with other creatives and sharing ideas. It allows us all to experience roads we haven’t taken, and to contribute things to the collective. Giving us a chance to be part of something greater than ourselves.
