Dreyer’s English

A Playful Editorial Identity for a Grammar Guide

Editorial Design | Book Cover & Table of Contents

Dreyer’s English reimagines what a grammar book can feel like. Instead of rigid structure and academic restraint, this editorial exploration embraces color, rhythm, and personality. The goal was to design a system that honors clarity while celebrating the expressive nature of language.

Role: Designer (Concept, Layout, Visual Language)

Grammar books traditionally rely on rigid grids, restrained palettes, and predictable typography. While functional, they can feel intimidating or overly academic.

The challenge was to create a visual system that maintains structure while introducing warmth and personality. Could a grammar guide feel expressive without losing clarity?

Language has rhythm. It has tone. It has personality. The design system reflects those qualities through intentional use of color, scale, and composition.

Color as Personality
A vibrant palette disrupts expectations and signals that this is not a traditional textbook.

Composition as Narrative
Asymmetry and movement echo the rhythm of spoken language, guiding the eye in a more conversational way.

Typography with Character
Hierarchy remains clear, but scale shifts and spatial play add energy and approachability.

Table of Contents

The table of contents becomes a visual experience rather than a static list. Color blocks and typographic scale establish hierarchy while introducing movement. Each section feels distinct but connected, forming a cohesive editorial system.

Book Cover

The cover sets the tone immediately. Bold color and confident typography communicate that structure and creativity can coexist. The composition feels intentional yet fluid, reinforcing the idea that grammar is a tool for expression rather than restriction.
